The Ria Formosa Natural Park is just a short drive away from Faro. Voted as one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal, the park is the best place to visit to experience some of the most beautiful wildlife and plant life in the whole of Portugal. It’s set in stunning lagoon that is protected by around 60km of beach and dunes.
Rio Formosa Natural Park is considered as being one of the most amazing places in the Algarve. The park is home to endangered creatures such as the chameleon, the seahorse, and the Portuguese Water Dog.
It’s definitely worth taking a trip to see – you might even be lucky enough to spot flamingos at sunset!

Located around 28 kilometres East of Faro, the gorgeous town of Tavira is often considered as being the prettiest place in the whole of the Algarve. The distinctive fishing town is steeped in history and has held on to its traditional characteristics.
Tavira was conquered by the Knights of the Order of Santiago in 1242, after previously being under Arab rule. It was made a city in 1520 and became the main trading port in the Algarve between the 16th to 18th centuries.
