16th Century Forte de São Francisco

Originally a 16th Century Franciscan Convent, and later converted into a Fort in order to defend the town, it was classified as a National Monument in 1938. In 2012 Forte de São Franciso was totally transformed, without losing the charm of its historic past, into a beautiful hotel in superb surroundings.

Located in the historic centre of Chaves, the Forte São Francisco hotel is situated inside imposing walls and is surrounded by almost 15,000 sq. metres of beautiful, mature gardens and terraces. The estate also houses a private Church and Chapel.
