Description
As Janelas Verdes is a beautiful, relaxing, intimate hotel in central Lisbon. Its sumptuous decor, rooftop library, fantastic terrace and honesty bar give it the feeling of staying in an exceptional Portuguese home. This hotel was once the home of Eça de Queirós, one of Portugal’s most famous novelists, and it is said to have inspired ‘O Ramalhete’ the magical home in his most famous literary work ‘Os Maias’. Its beautiful water features, internal courtyard and small garden add to the relaxing environment which is very welcoming after a day of exploring Lisbon’s many attractions.
The hotel is well located in one of Lisbon’s most affluent and tranquil areas where many of the Embassies are concentrated. With views over the Tejo River, it is in the heart of ‘old Lisbon’ and is next to Lisbon’s Ancient Art Museum.
As Janelas Verdes’ excellent facilities include an internal courtyard where breakfast is served, river views from its terrace, an honesty bar, small garden, lift and garage (needs to be pre-booked).
The hotel’s 29 rooms are beautifully decorated. Triple/family rooms are available on request. All rooms have free WIFI, air conditioning, safe, flat-screen satellite TV and DVD player with bathrobes, slippers and a hairdryer in the ensuite bathrooms.

Location/Directions
Address:
Rua das Janelas Verdes 47
1200-690 Lisboa
Surrounding area:
- S. Jorge castle: National Monument occupying a privileged area of the old medieval alcacova (citadel). The fortification, built by the Moors in the mid-11th century, was the last defensive stronghold for the elite who resided on the citadel.
- Sintra (25 kms): A UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its fairytale palaces, incredible views, and notable museum collections.
- Estoril (24 kms): A cosmopolitan coastal town which has maintained its somewhat faded grandeur. The picturesque beach of Tamariz is overlooked by a castle and has many cafes and bars. Behind the beach is the casino which was the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s James Bond and Casino Royal.
- Cascais (24 kms): A former fishing village, now a cosmopolitan beach town.
- Ericeira (54 kms): A charming fishing village with narrow streets, whitewashed houses, sandy beaches and excellent seafood restaurants.
- Troia (15 minute car ferry trip from Setubal): A stunning peninsula with 18kms of clean, soft sandy beaches, some of the cleanest in Portugal. Although parts of the island are built up you can still find untouched, secluded sandy beaches. There is also an 18 hole Championship golf course and restaurants famous for their seafood.
- Arrabida Natural Park (40 kms): Stretching to the Atlantic Ocean, the park boasts a spectacular granite ridge and the area is a haven for wildlife. The Portinho de Arrabida, where the Park meets the Ocean, is a sheltered beach with crystal clear waters.
