Vila Gale Collection Braga

Vila Gale Collection Braga is a 4-star luxury historic hotel in the former Sao Marcos hospital, which dates back to 1508. This hotel opened in 2018 after major renovations and the result is simply spectacular. Many grandiose architectural features have been preserved, including interior courtyards, vaulted ceilings, baroque fountains and a chapel devoted to Saint Marcos.

Braga is Portugal’s third largest city, located in Minho Region of Northern Portugal. The city is well known for many historical sights but perhaps the most famous is Bom Jesus, a hilltop sanctuary overlooking the city.  The Bom Jesus church is reached by a baroque zigzag staircase 116 meters high with a series of chapels and sculptures which evoke the Passion of Christ – there is also a funicular which takes you to the church. Bom Jesus became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019.

Braga is a good base from which to explore many other towns in Northern Portugal, including Guimaraes (known as the birthplace of Portugal, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Geres, and Galiza in Spain is just 1h30 drive away.
