The village of Obidos is a beautifully preserved walled medieval village. Famous for its narrow medieval street and white-washed houses adored with flowers, it’s a must see for anyone wanting to explore Portugal. Obidos has been a jewel in Portugal’s crown for many centuries since it was conquered from the Moors by D. Afonso Henriques, Portugal’s first King. The village became known as the ‘wedding present town’ as it formed part of various Queen’s dowries until it was eventually bequeathed to the nation.

Pousada Vila Obidos has 17 classic, superior and premium rooms. All elegant in décor, many of the rooms feature items restored from the building’s 18th century roots, including doors and shutters. All rooms are ensuite (with a shower, no bath) and offer heating/air conditioning, safe, minibar, hairdryer, telephone, LCD TV and free wifi. Beds can be arranged into two single beds or a large double.

Obidos is located approximately one hour’s drive north of Lisbon and is therefore easily accessible and a great stop for anyone touring the country. It’s authentic medieval streets and character make it a popular destination, not to mention the famous castle which is one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal. Only 20 mins drive to the coast (and the pretty village of Peniche), Obidos is a great place to stay if you wish to explore the surrounding area.
