The Beautiful Pousada de Angra do Heroísmo with a Rich History
The cliff-top hotel Sao Sebastiao in the Azores combines an historical setting with a luxurious modern decor and stunning views. Situated in a military fortress, which dates back to 1555, the Hotel do Heroísmo is surrounded by high stone walls and although mostly ruins, two sentry posts and a turret of the original fortress still remain. Angra do Heroísmo was classed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1983.

The Pousada do Heroísmo is located in the historic centre of Angra do Heroísmo, the main town on the island of Terceira, which, as aforementioned, was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983. The hotel is located at the top of a cliff within the ruined walls of the historic fort. For over three centuries Angra do Heroísmo was an important port in the middle of the Atlantic, a stopover for many boats travelling between Europe, Africa and America.
There are plenty of activities to pursue at this idyllic location including marine hunting, scuba diving, sport fishing and even horse riding.

- Algar do Carvao (12 kms): an ancient volcanic vent at an altitude of 550 metres above sea level. Visitors can descend approximately 100 metres into the vent to a pool of crystal-clear water.
